Groundwater supplies

The Orange County Water District is able to track the Orange County Groundwater Basin's water supply on a monthly basis.

The District tracks basin water supply at the end of each month by:

1) Carefully measuring the volume of water delivered to District recharge facilities
2) Using historical relationships to estimate the volume of natural recharge based on actual monthly rainfall
3) Cooperative reporting of monthly groundwater pumping volumes from our major groundwater producing agencies
4) Using the difference between total supplies and total pumping to calculate the change in groundwater storage at the end of each month.

This almost real-time information allows us to make more informed management decisions on future water supplies and pumping.

Urban water wholesaler supply information

The Orange County Water District has evaluated the amount of groundwater supply available to its 19 water retailers using the assumptions required by the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB). The SWRCB requires a three-year projection of future supplies based on a repeat of the hydrology of 2013 through 2015.
