The OC Plan Website Calls for Project Ideas

The County of Orange is preparing a new watershed management plan for the north and central portions of Orange County and is asking for all agencies and organizations to send in their project ideas to be added to the plan.

The OC Plan for Integrated Regional Water Management (IRWM) for North and Central Orange County (The OC Plan) was drafted with OCWD, OCSD, the Newport Bay Watershed Executive Committee, representatives from cities and agencies, and numerous stakeholders around the county.

The purpose of the plan is to improve management of water resources and maximize grant funding to improve the quality of life in Orange County.  The final step to complete the planning process is to compile a list of potential projects from agencies and organizations in the region.

Whereas the plan describes a vision for the future of water resources, the projects in the plan are aimed at achieving that vision.  The timeline allows for stakeholders in the region to review the proposed projects, and project ideas from other agencies, and develop multi-benefit projects that will be more competitive for upcoming Proposition 1 grants (anticipated in late 2018) and other local, state and federal grants.

To collect proposed projects, the county has posted an online project form that can be accessed through the county website. To assist stakeholders in submitting projects for the plan, the county will be conducting a workshop at Orange County Public Works, 2301 North Glassell Street in Orange, Conference Room 2A, on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m.

The OC Plan team will answer questions, demonstrate how to use the online form and help complete the project submittal for those needing this assistance.  The deadline to submit a project for inclusion in the OC Plan is Feb. 21, 2018.  If you have questions regarding The OC Plan, the North and Central IRWM web page or the project submission process, please contact Christy Suppes, Orange County Public Works/Environmental Resources at 714-955-0673.
