OCWD and Santa Ana Watershed Association

The Orange County Water District (OCWD) works closely with many partners in the Santa Ana Watershed, including the Santa Ana Watershed Association (SAWA). Primarily responsible for managing the wildlife resources in Southern California’s largest coastal river system, SAWA serves 4.5 million residents in portions of San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles and Orange Counties. SAWA’s mission is to protect and nurture the natural environment of the Santa Ana River.

OCWD acts as one of five agency board members of SAWA, along with the four Resource Conservation Districts. OCWD manages Orange County’s vast groundwater basin and refreshes its supply with resources from the Santa Ana River. To that end, the agency has great interest in maintaining the highest quality water from the Santa Ana River system. In its tradition of innovation, OCWD operates under the philosophy that excellence in water management–and stewardship of natural resources–go hand in hand. The district’s close partnership with SAWA demonstrates this commitment.
