OCWD INVITES THE PUBLIC TO GET SOAKED WITH WATER WISDOM

FOUNTAIN VALLEY – There is a looming global water crisis that could make water more precious than oil, land or money.  In fact, 99 percent of chemical reactions in your body require water.  These are just some of the interesting, yet informative facts that the public can soak up at the next O.C. Water 101 class.

Orange County Water District (OCWD) is offering its O.C. Water 101 class to teach Orange County residents who live in an arid region about the scarcity and importance of one of our most precious resources used daily — water.

O.C. Water 101 will discuss water supply and future water reliability for Orange County.  Students will learn what the public can be do to keep Orange County “wet” and what local water experts are doing to ensure our water’s well being.  In addition, the class addresses key water issues affecting our water supplies from a global, national and local perspective.  The class will also explain what is being done locally to help other parts of the world.

A special tour of Orange County Water District’s on-site water purification facility is included with the class.  During the tour, students will see the world’s most advanced water purification technology, including reverse osmosis, microfiltration and ultraviolet light with hydrogen peroxide used for disinfection and purification.  The classes are intended for adults and are offered at no cost, however, reservations are required.

Classes are Wednesday evenings at OCWD’s office located at 10500 Ellis Ave.
(at the corner of Ellis and Ward) in Fountain Valley.  OCWD is now accepting reservations for the Wednesday, January 25 class from 6 to 8 p.m.

Orange County Water District (OCWD) manages the large groundwater basin that underlies North-Central Orange County that provides most of the water for 2.3 million citizens. OCWD is committed to constantly improving Orange County’s groundwater quality and reliability in an environmentally friendly manner. With years of prudent planning and careful investment, OCWD has doubled the yield of the groundwater basin. Recently, the basin, larger that the largest reservoir in Southern California, sustained the County through a five-year drought. OCWD has also spent millions of dollar on studies by outside experts to ensure the quality of our groundwater. We want to be your trusted source for water quality. We will continue to plan and invest in ways to get more water into and out of the basin. OCWD is a special district, separate from the County of Orange, that supplies to residents in the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster and Yorba Linda.
