ORANGE COUNTY WATER DISTRICT WINS AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING FINANCIAL REPORTING

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. – The Orange County Water District (OCWD) announced today that it has been awarded the Outstanding Financial Reporting Award – the most prestigious award an organization can receive from the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers – the sponsoring agency of these awards. OCWD is one of 17 of the 18 special districts in California who received an Award for Outstanding Financial Reporting for the 1999–2000 Fiscal Year. This is OCWD’s first year receiving this prestigious award.

Each year, a panel of CPAs and Finance Professionals perform extensive evaluations of the applicants’ consolidated annual financial reports. OCWD earned this award for its excellence in the completion of very high quality annual financial statements.

The California Society of Municipal Finance Officers is a statewide organization that promotes excellence in financial management through innovation, continuing education and the professional development of its members. The organization is deeply committed to the key issues facing special districts. They value integrity, and adhere to the highest standards of ethical conduct.

The Orange County Water District is a special water agency created by the California Legislature in l933 to maintain and manage the huge groundwater basin under northern Orange County. The groundwater basin managed by OCWD supplies 75% of the water needs to more than 2 million residents in the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington and Newport Beach, Irvine, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster and Yorba Linda.
