ORANGE COUNTY WATER DISTRICT COMMENDS DISNEYLAND RESORT FOR THEIR COMMITMENT TO EDUCATING ORANGE COUNTY ABOUT WATER AND THE ENVIRONMENT
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. Orange County Water District (OCWD) will officially commend Disneyland Resort with a Board Resolution recognizing its support for the nations largest Childrens Water Education Festival. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, August 15, 2001 at 6:00 p.m. at the beginning of the regular OCWD board meeting in Fountain Valley, Calif. As an active partner with OCWD in presenting the Childrens Water Education Festival for the last five years, the Disneyland Resort has provided invaluable support to make the event bigger and better year after year.
As a part of the OCWD Groundwater Guardian Team, the Disneyland Resorts Environmental Affairs Department has provided their knowledge and leadership to help make the Childrens Water Education Festival the largest festival of its kind in the nation, and one of the most popular field trips for Orange County 3rd- through 4th- graders, each Spring. As the water industry embarks on a century of change, it becomes increasingly more important for water agencies to work in partnership with community stakeholders like the Disneyland Resort.
Although the Childrens Water Education Festival is one of the larger projects the Groundwater Guardian team puts together each year, Environmental Affairs staff members from the Disneyland Resort continue to dedicate countless hours and resources to the Teams water education and conservation projects. Since the Disneyland Resort joined the Groundwater Guardian in 1998, it has taken a leadership role in identifying and implementing groundwater-related projects. In 1999, the Disneyland Resort hosted a special screening of the movie "A Civil Action" for elected officials and community leaders. This event was coordinated to help build awareness about the serious health and environmental effects of water contamination. In fact, this was the first-ever movie screening of this type hosted by the Walt Disney Company.
Because of the dedication and tireless efforts by the Disneyland Resort cast members, Orange County Water District will present a framed resolution of appreciation to the Disneyland Resorts Director of Risk Management Betty Appleton. Orange County Water District looks forward to continuing a successful partnership with the Disneyland Resort in expanding the Childrens Water Education Festival and creating new environmental education programs in Orange County.
The Orange County Water District is a special water agency created by the California Legislature in l933 to maintain and manage the huge groundwater basin under northern Orange County. The groundwater basin managed by OCWD supplies 75% of the water needs to more than 2 million residents in the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Cypress, Costa Mesa, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington and Newport Beach, Irvine, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster and Yorba Linda.
